Long before hard and hypnotic wormhole dance became the booming genre it is today, there was 69db. As a teenager, experiencing the illegal acid house parties of the 80s, the Scottish artist swapped his drum kit for a Roland 303 and an EDP Wasp synthesiser to become an electronic music producer.
In 1991 he joined Spiral Tribe Sound System and co-founded the SP23 studio, pushing dance music beyond the limits of track production and moving DJing into the unexplored territory of live improv. Constantly switching up his style and drawing from traditions like freeform jazz, dub, house, hard tek and tribal, the past 30 years have seen 69db’s fluid live performances become respected moments of gritty spirituality.
